Once this picture has been recognized it is difficult ever to go back to the state in which it cannot again be recognized. The experience of recognition changes the brain/mind in a way that allows the same picture to be recognized afterwards. The recognition of the object is not solely in the sensation, that is, the projection of the image on the retina, but is in a complex interaction between the sensation and the mind of the perceiver.
