Mr. Randy Casco has been involved in the martial arts for over four decades. As a young boy he trained in Judo. As a high school student he trained in Aikido. During his first year at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), he studied one year of Kajukenpo. Then in 1971, he started training in a relatively new martial arts at the time, Taekwon-do. His involvement in Taekwon-Do spans over three decades. He received his first-degree black belt in 1975 under Grandmaster C.E. Sereff (President of the United States Taekwon-Do Federation) and soon after, returned home to Hawaii. His instructor was Master Mike Winegar who is the current Director of Technique for the USTF.
In 1981, he started his Taekwon-Do school at the Lahaina Civic Center. His school is currently the oldest and longest running martial arts school in West Maui.
In an attempt to contribute to the appropriate behavior of the students at Lahaina Intermediate School, Mr. Casco decided to teach Taekwon-Do as an elective class in the physical education curriculum. A major focus of the program is the development of etiquette and respect in students that are in the class. It is this focus that take precedence over the development of the obvious physical benefits the program has to offer. Free sparring is not part of the Taekwon-Do curriculum.
Some of Mr. Casco's distinctions are as follows:
