My favoriate plant All about myself

Do I have to make fuss about myself? I have been trained and worked as research chemist for several companies. I truly enjoyed my work and particularly miss the friendship and intellectual interaction with many of my super- smart colleagues or tech-nerds. After relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii from Atlanta, Georgia, I decided to make a career change. So now I am a MBA student in University of Hawaii, Manoa. I am married with two wonderful boys, Bobby, 10 years old, Kevin, 15 months. OK, that’s enough; I don’t want to bore you anymore.

Live by the ocean

Living in Hawaii is so fascinating! In one of my previous workplaces, we had Hawaiian- shirt day. On the last Friday of June, we all wore so-called “Hawaiian shirt” to work; I did not have one at that time, so I wore my husband’s. At that time, the blue Hawaii seemed so far away from me, but now I am actually living in this paradise. Life is so unpredictable, isn’t it?!

In China, we often say that you don’t know how little you are until you see the ocean. Yes, the water seems running endlessly, the world is so big and filled with countless unknown, why we just put down our worries and simply enjoy life itself and the beautiful nature? Indeed, living by the ocean has made my life much simpler and merrier. I guess it is also due to the good weather and year-around sunshine.

My dear visitors, if you haven’t been to Oahu, Hawaii, you may enjoy this picture which was taken by Bobby from airplane. When I was leaving for Hawaii, many of my old friends and colleagues asked for pictures. Unfortunately, I haven’t sent out any, because I thought none of my pictures could truly reflect the genuine beauty of Hawaii. So you better come over here to have a look on your own!

IT does matter

I am currently taking BUS615C, information technologies. Thanks  Dr. Sprague for introducing us many interesting articles in the field. As we all know, IT, particular Internet, has profoundly changed the business world and social life style. But, do you know what Internet has done to Moms? Well, Internet is empowering  kids and threatening Moms’ authority. In the “good old” days, kids liked to bug their Moms by “why this” or “why that”. Moms, as authority, sure knew much better than their kids. Well, in the age of information, kids can get almost about anything from Internet, so poor Moms like me are losing the superiority. For example, once Bobby learnt how to play with Internet, he stop asking me questions like the way he used to do. He would brag like “you don’t really know this; I got it from Internet", or "I am downloading a free game from Internet, so stay away from computer for now". And the "worst" thing is, today’s kids are really getting knowledgeable through Internet. While Moms are cooking and vacuuming, kids are sitting in front of computers and surfing in the ocean of information! When Bobby heard I have a homepage assignment for the class, he enthusiastically offered me help cause he already knew how to use Microsoft FrontPage in school. Indeed, the revolution of information technology is one of the most important events in 20th century by bringing people the equal opportunities for information and knowledge regardless their age, income, social status, geographic location and etc. Amazing!

Good news for tech-nerds! If you consider you are a tech-nerd or plan to be a one like my older son Bobby, you can check this site out. I got this site from my ex-colleagues, this site has made those poor nerds feel so good about themselves. http://www.geappliances.com/ads/video_beauty_brains.htm

Miss the snow? Sometimes I do miss the fun to make snowman and fight with snow balls. In this site, you can design endless virtual cut-out snowflakes and see a gallery of impressive cut-out snowflakes made by others. So you can bring the magic snow into your home whenever you feel you need to cool down a little bit. You just need a little practice on how to handle the virtual scissors! Not as bad as dealing with the real ones. This site is also good for kids.  http://snowflakes.lookandfeel.com/
