Mission
The mission of the Career and Technical Education Center is to assist the State Board for Career and Technical Education in carrying out the purposes and provisions of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 and other related requirements mandated by federal legislation including
-
developing and revising the State Plan for Career and Technical Education whenever necessary
-
recommending the establishment of policies for career and technical education
-
assisting the Department of Education and the University of Hawai'i System Community Colleges in planning, coordinating, and evaluating career and technical education programs and services.
Primary Objectives
To provide administrative leadership, direction, and coordination for the total of career and technical education in Hawaii and to coordinate with other institutions or agencies engaged in economic development, workforce education, and training.
To improve planning in the use of all resources for career and technical education; to evaluate the programs, services, and activities assisted under the Act in accordance with the State's system of core standards and measures of performance; to reduce gender bias and stereotyping in career and technical education programs; to reduce discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, sex, and disability in career and technical education programs, services, activities and to provide equal access to all populations of students electing to choose a career pathway and program of study.
