What's Sustainable Development?

If you're like any normal person, you may be feeling what might be called environmental issues fatigue. There certainly is a great deal of talk these days about the unsettling consequences of global climate change, pollution, and the myriad other problems that the world may soon have to face. What you might not have heard about before is Sustainable Development.

Sustainable Development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

UH PRSSA strongly beleives in the importance of the idea represented by this principle. Why is this relevant? Well, to start with, Hawaii's economy depends heavily on one of it's most precious qualities: the natural environment. Visitors come to Hawaii from all over the world to enjoy the beautiful and scenic islands on which we live. There are dozens of other reasons why it's important to look out for our islands. Therefore, it's with this in mind that we wish to promote the ideals encompassed by ethical and responsible use of natural resources, by Sustainable Development.
