Introduction. Somewhat like their predecessors in the early 1920s, students and scholars from the People's Republic of China resumed pursuing academic and professional educations in Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Today, of course, China's role in the world is much greater.

• A module of the "CHINA-KONTOR Das chinesische Informations-Portal" website.

• "Chinesiche Vereine, Organisationen Vereinigunungen und Verbände" is the former title of this website. After its URL changed in late 2004, 48 external links to Germany-based Chinese and Taiwanese associations remained.

• Until late 2004, Vereine und Organisationen had 68 external links to an array of self-identified local Chinese organizations, as well as to China- and Taiwan-focused associations in Germany. In comparison, the present collection of links is diminished.

• In German. Online discussion fora in German, Chinese and English, but most content is in German.

• This not-for-profit Association's three objectives are as follows:
1) To encourage and develop friendship and exchanges between the Chinese scientists and engineers working in France;

2) To play the role of intermediary for French-Chinese scientific and technical cooperation; and

3) To promote and reinforce scientific and technical exchanges with various French and international scientific associations.

• The ASICEF/ASCIEF website has not been maintained for some time.

• ASICEF/ASCIEF is not a student organization. It claims almost 200 members active in the following professional and academic fields: agriculture, biology and medicine, chemistry, computer science, energy and environment, law and economy, mathematics, mechanics and materials, and transport and communications. All ASICEF/ASCIEF members reside and work in France and are listed with their e-mail addresses by field of specialization.

• In French, Chinese, English.

• Date created (?). Last dates updated 9 June 2004(?), as of dates last accessed (17 September 2004), 3 December 2004 (13 December 2004); totally "stopped after a hack" on or before 8 September 2005); updated 16 March 2006 (accessed 23 March 2006; last archived version, 4 April 2005, as of last date accessed (28 February 2007) — v.k.p.

STUDENT PERSPECTIVES
on Chinois de France:

"Not all the pages are translated into English. And a lot of the Chinese is broken. As a result, I am not quite sure whether this website accurately describes the life of the Chinese people in France or not. On the other hand, the website is especially useful for students who want to know about illegal Chinese immigration problems and the possible solutions.

"Also, the Chinese way of living in France and Hawaii is similar.....As a Chinese, I lived in China for the first eleven years of my life.....I personally feel that it is fascinating to see the Chinese people around the world making their mark in the outside world"
— Tammie Wei Yin Liang, student, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Asian Studies 320C, Spring 2004.

"Illegal immigration is one topic that is thoroughly discussed on this website. From information on specific areas noted for illegal trafficking with "snakeheads," a statistical graph has been created. At the same time, progress made by the Chinese Government in limiting activities by gangs of "snakeheads" is noted Publication)

In these circumstances, culture has been disregarded because the undocumented migrants are focused on surviving"
— Jie Dong, student, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Asian Studies 320C, Spring 2007.
