A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. I had no idea how much information one portrait could capture about the character of an animal. Most of the inferences of the characteristics are made by the viewer at first glance at the picture. It was challenging getting a nice focused picture of an animal that is constantly moving. I found that bright light helps, and timing in their food schedule is crucial. I took about 250 pictures of 10 dogs to get twelve excellent portraits.
