Peace Letters

Stop the War in Iraq!

Write a letter to President Bush!

Peace Letters is collecting letters against the war, and will deliver them to the president via Senator Inouye. Please follow our appeal and write a letter. It can be as short as a single line (e.g. “I urge you not to start a war with Iraq.”). Every letter counts. Together we can make a difference!

We will keep collecting letters through March and April

A big mahalo to everyone who wrote and submitted letters so far. The first installment of 350 letters will be handed over shortly.

Talking Points:

Military action against Iraq:

  • will create new terrorists;
  • will divert resources from devising and effecting long-lasting solutions to terrorism;
  • will divert resources from an already-underfunded public education system and programs such as Medicare and Social Security;
  • will further erode Civil Rights;
  • will hurt Hawaii's tourist industry;
  • will hurt UH students;
  • will further negatively impact international students and scholars, travelers (including tourists), immigrants, and Americans of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and Muslim descent;
  • will further erode academic freedom

About Peace Letters:

We are a grassroots coalition made up of the UH Student Caucus, UHPA, Not In Our Name (UH-NION), and the University Peace Initiative. We are coordinating this letter writing campaign to help citizens voice their opposition to the war, hoping it will encourage President Bush to pursue a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Iraq. The coalition plans to present the letters to Senator Daniel Inouye so that he may present them to the President.
