Rise of R & B

The rise of R & B music was one of the most important wave of black music to join the pop mainstream.

There isn't really a Father of R & B music, but some sources say that Louis Jordan is one of the most influential R & B artists.

Louis Jordan

Louis Jordan was a pioneer of style combining a driving "backbeat" with vocals and a live-wire electric guitar and saxophone. He was one of the most popular R & B artist after World War II. He had the ability to reach beyond the racial barriers of pop music.
He crossed over into the white record-buying market with his group the Tympany 5.
They launched 54 singles into the R & B charts in the 40's and from that 18 songs went to #1.

R & B finally got some credit in 1942 when Billboard recognized it and radio programmers began playing it on the radio.
