Colloquium Requirement

Regular attendance and active online as well as in-class participation in discussions constitute a significant part of each student's academic performance. Since it is a writing intensive cours
e, the students are required to respond to each reading assignment at least once and respond regularly to other students' responses online. These written online discussions will be informal and exploratory in nature and could involve open-ended arguments
that could go in different directions.
Two short non-consecutive presentations of approximately 20 minutes distributed over the spring semester. The written versions of the assignments would be posted online so that others can respond
to them. Please check your selection of topics with me so as to avoid any unnecessary overlaps and to allow some planning of discussion topics ahead.
A final
research project to be submitted on Dec 10 in the form of a
hypertexted essay consisting of three or four short interconnected essays
written over
the semester dealing with any part of the course.
Students will revise the earlier pieces
as they learn
more about the subject and reintegrate this new understanding into their
projects as the
semester progresses. Students who want to
experiment with writing hypertext fiction can choose that as their writing
project. This, however, should be accompanied by a short piece that shows
they have researched one or more hypertext fiction sites on the web.
The due dates of the three parts
of the writing
project are: Oct 8, Nov.5, and Nov. 26. Students will then upload the
entire project on the web, create appropriate links, and present it
to class on Dec 10. All student projects will become a part of the ETC
web.
