Some of my paintings

Baker Field

Watercolor on Paper

2004

This painting is based on a photograph I took for my hardscape catalogue. It shows the shadows cast by the “Fertility Tree” (Samanea saman) during the early hours of the morning.

Dean H.R. Memorial

Watercolor on Paper

2001

Also within the confines of the UPLB Campus, the Dean H.R. Memorial is one such monument that is concealed. If you happen to pass by the UPLB Main Library, you’ll maybe notice this structure. This painting was based on a sketch I made on site during my “free time” in college. This memorial was probably built in during the 1920s.

Administration Building

Oil on Canvass

2004

My second attempt using oil as a medium. Based on a photograph I also took from my hardscape catalogue, the painting took almost a year to finish. At bit of history – the farmer and carabao statue used to be in front where the UP Los Baņos Signage is now. It was transferred to its present position during the 60s.

Dalambanga

Watercolor on Paper

2002

This UPLB landmark is quite easy to find as it is between the Palma Bridge and Student Union building. The statue represents Maria Makiling, keeper of Mt. Makiling. It was made during the 1930s by Moises Villaluz, a UP graduate with a certificate in painting and sculpture. Miss Elena Cagnida Villarama was the model for the face while a certain Ms. Capinpin was the model for the body.

Old Humanities Portal

Watercolor on Canvass

2002

This is one of many ‘portals’ that dot the university. These portals used to be the main entrances of buildings. These are important relics that reflect the university’s past. This particular one is found near the university post office.

Tayug, Pangasinan - Caraballo Mountains

Watercolor on Paper

2002

This is the view from the vegetable research station/office where I first worked. It was a very isolated place the nearest main road is few kilometers away. Its location offers a magnificent view of the Caraballo mountains in the east.

Kalaupapa Peninsula, Molokai, Hawaii

Watercolor on Paper

2005

My very first painting in Hawaii. Kalaupapa peninsula was once a leper colony in the 1800s. Now it is a protected area with restrictions in entry. Families were broken apart as members suspected to have Hansen's disease (leprosy) were transferred to this area. Native Hawaiians could trace some their relatives here. This area is also home to Father Damien.

Self Portrait

Watercolor on Paper

2006

This self portrait is based on a photograph I made in December 2005. I base most of my paintings from photographs I take. This makes it easier for me to sketch.
