This site is old! Check out neilsclark.com for constantly updated content on games and addiction!

Hey, I'm Neils. I study games and game addiction, but I've also been an off and on game addict for the last 10 years. Yeah, I've played WoW. I was on hiatus for a bit, but now I'm back. In WoW I've downed C'thun, downed Raz just after Naxx had come out, got married, ganked paladins, got my Stormrage, got some Bloodfang, and had a good time.

I've been researching games in general for over 4 years. I've spent the last two years of my life researching addiction in Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games, for instance World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XI. Suprisingly, important people like what I'm doing. I've been quoted in publications like BusinessWeek, and right now I'm making my money by doing freelance contract work inside of MMO games.

I'm applying to Ph.D. Programs so that I can continue my research. I also have very cool projects cooking right now. Don't be afraid to email me.

Thurs Jan 11. It's a new year, and I have a new website, neilsclark.com! The University of Hawaii site that you're looking at is no longer being updated, however neilsclark.com is a blog that should offer continually updated content aimed toward helping anybody who is interested in learning more about game addiction. Go there!

Wed Dec 21. Working on a new ridiculously cool website. It's under development right now, and online. If you'd like to see it, then let me know! Expect neilsclark.com to direct you to a cozy new home sometime next week.

Tues Dec 20. Gamasutra accepted my newest article! It is an update to my last addiction piece for them. The new piece is titled, "Games and Addiction. Are we there yet?" Look for it in early Jan 2007!

Mon, Dec 4th. I'm wrapping up a follow-up addiction article for gamasutra.com, look for it in the next 3 weeks or so! Nick Yee also has a post over at Terra Nova where he tackles the trouble with addiction.

Wed, Nov 1st. My old site was just too technically sophisticated for certain Linux-based operating systems. Let me know if you're still having problems, ol' Peety.

Tues, Oct 24th. Sweet! Thank you ultra-rush interlibrary loans! My small public library was able to call forth both the Tolkien Reader and Ibn Khaldun's three volume Muqaddimah! Heck yes.

Wed, Oct 4th. Just returned from the hospitality of Micheal Balzer and Shavaun Scott, who are making a documentary on MMO Gaming. It was really gratifying to be able to talk games and addiction with knowledgeable and down to earth people.
