Current Guidelines
There are many guidelines that have been developed by teachers, librarians, and media specialists that serve as a good starting point for students. Unfortunately, many teachers do not have the time to locate and modify these guidelines for use by their students. Librarians could also serve in this role, but a close collaboration between teacher and librarian is required for this to be effective (Collins, 1996; Johnson, 1995). A current list of 66 guidelines can be found in Appendix C. From these 66 guidelines, six factors emerged as the most critical in evaluating a Web site for information as can be seen in Table 1.
