Cigar Smoking & Cancer

 

 

Smokers must be aware of the many risks involved with smoking.  Statistics have shown that smoking does have a relationship with many different types of  cancer.    This page will give you more of an insight on what risks you are taking everytime you decide to take another hit of that cigar or cigarette.   You will see that smoking may not be what you want to do afterall.

 

 

The Risks

Smoking Tobacco

Can increase the risk of several cancers including:   cancer of the oral cavity (lip, tongue, mouth, throat), esophagus,

Increases the risk of heart disease and and COPD (chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease), which is a type of lung cancer

Doubles the risk for oral cancers and esophageal cancer compared to someone who has never smoked

The Amount you smoke affects the risks

            Smoking three to four cigars per day increases the risk of oral cancer to 3 and a half times that of a non smoker, smoking               more than five cigars per day raises the oral cancer risk to 16 times that of a nonsmoker

Inhaling affects the risks

            Cigar smokers who ingale deeply have 27 times the risk of oral cancer, 15 times the risk of esophageal cancer, and 53               times the risk of the cancer of the larynx
