EVALUATION PROCEDURES FOR WRITING-INTENSIVE COURSES
The WICC in consultation with the Dean of Instruction will conduct an evaluation of each WI course at the end of each semester. The purpose of this evaluation will be to:
l. Evaluate the effectiveness of the writing-intensive component of each WI course.
2. Determine whether each course on the WI Active List meets the Hawai'i CC Writing-Intensive Guidelines to maintain its continued status on the Active List.
3. Improve the course before it is offered again.
4. Provide information for an annual report to the UH Writing Committee about the effectiveness of the WI program on our campus.
Procedures:
1. By the time final grades are due, instructors will submit to the WI Coordinator:
A completed student survey administered during weeks l2 to l4.
A completed instructor survey.
Their course syllabus and writing assignments.
2. The WI Coordinator will summarize the surveys with the assistance of the WICC members.
3. The WICC will review the summarized survey and syllabus of each course. Based on this review, it will make a recommendation to the DOI about whether the course meets the WI guidelines and whether it should remain on the WI Active List.
4. The WI Coordinator will give each instructor, the Division Chair, and the DOI a copy of the results of the review. The original evaluations will be filed in the DOI's office.
5. With the WICC's input, the WI Coordinator will analyze the summarized surveys and write the annual report about this campus's WI program for submission to the UH Writing Committee.
