South Asia (Region)

  • South Asia Gopher
    A gopher site created and maintained by David Magier at Columbia University. It includes Bibliographic Information on South Asia, Electronic Texts(Journals and Text Archives), South Asianists (Directories/Mailing Lists/News/Events/Jobs), Teaching Resources on South Asia, Specialized Databases & Info Resources on South Asia, Resouces from the Indian Subcontinent, Australia, Germany, Tibet Studies, and Buddhist Studies.
  • South Asia Web Pages
    This is a very comprehensive list of South Asia related Web Pages, which is circulated by the Australian National University. There is also a list of Web pages for all the South Asian countries. This list summarizes the contents of the pages. Consider yourself lucky if you connect to this link.
  • Region of South Asia (ROSA)
    Consists of the countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka . Information related to each of these countries in the areas of economy, population, development, culture, tourism etc. are available in reasonable detail. The information is primarily based on World Fact Book and contributions from various voluntary organisations and individuals.
  • South Asia Consortium West (SACWEST)
    A Consortium of South Asia Collections at five University Libraries: UC - Berkeley; UCLA, Univ. of Hawaii, Univ. of Texas, and the Univ. of Washington. Includes pages for the consortium agreement, subject profiles of participating institutions, and soon to include bibliographic guides to finding information on a variety of South Asia related academic topics.
  • South Asia Journals Indexed by Uncover
    This is a list of social sciences and humanities journals indexed by a private indexing service called UnCover. UnCover also indexes many science and technology journals from South Asia, but this list does not include the science and technology journals in its scope.
  • Books of South Asian Writers
    This source has links to lists titled: South Asian Literature (English), South Asian Literature (Translated), General Books From South Asia, Other Books With Theme On South Asia, Voices of South Asian Women, and Children's Books With Theme On South Asia.
  • South Asia Web Resources
    Links to 10 pages: Gurukul (Non-profit group for Literacy and Housing in India), India Online,India Student Association - University of Texas at Austin, INDO link, South Asia News, South Asian-American Literature Page, The Other Place (Indian art online! Very fun site.), Trikone, Web India (Indian Business Directory), and Vedic Astrology.
  • South Asia -Embassys, Consulates, and Tourist Information
    Addresses for many South and Southeast Asian countries.
  • Trikone
    A non-profit group for lesbian and gay South Asians. Founded in 1986 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Trikone is the oldest group of its kind in the world. It's goal is to bring women and men of South Asian heritage together in a friendly, supportive, and non-judgmental environment, and to promote awareness, visibility and acceptance of alternative sexuality in society. Trikone proudly affirms both its South Asian identity as well as its sexuality.Lesbian and Gay South Asians.
  • South Asian Women's Network
    A forum for south asian women, and those interested in issues relevant to south asian women. `South Asia' is taken to include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The mailing list is restricted to women only by the consensus vote of the members. However, everyone is welcome to the information on the WWW pages.
  • South Asia Panels at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Asian Studies
    This is a temporary page which I set up for the 1996 AAS Annual Meeting.
  • Call for Papers - 25th Annual South Asia Conference

  • Indian Religions
    Provides links to pages on Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Parsiism. Currently, there are no pages on Parsiism.
  • Film Reviews
    For Hindi Films, Tamil Film Reviews, and Other Film Reviews.
  • Book Reviews
    Links to 15 book reviews of contemporary titles, including The Moor's Last Sigh, Junglee Girl, and Arranged Marriage. Includes an invitation to contribute articles.
  • News from India
    has links to Political News, Kashmir News, International News, Business News, and Other News.
  • India - Country Information
    has sixteen links to information on India, such as the National Biodiversity Profile, World Factbook Info for India, Travel, Aerospace Industry, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in India.
  • Travel in India
    Created by the India Tourist Office in the Netherlands. It includes a Clickable Map of India, Accommodation Information, Wildlife and National Parks, Special Events (Fairs and Festivals), temperature and rainfall charts, and what looks like a wide variety of links to answer most travel related questions.
