Fishing in Hawaii is a popular pastime enjoyed by many locals. There are many styles of fishing in Hawaii including:

  2. Whipping
  3. Handpole

I consider handpole fishing to be the #1 style of fishing because it's so easy to do and everyone who goes fishing usually starts with handpole fishing. Things you need for handpole fishing include:

  • Pole (Bamboo or Fiberglass)
  • Fishing Line (4-6 lb. mono)
  • Hooks (the smaller the better...)
  • Sinker (Split-shot type) or Floater
  • Bait (Frozen shrimp and bread are great for many fishes!)
