The Center for

Japanese Global Investments and Finance

The Center was established in September 1997 at the College of Business Administration, University of Hawaiei. The idea for the Center was based on a suggestion from the Japanese Keidanrenfs Investment Study Mission to Hawaiei in 1988, as well as the local communityfs strong desire for well-balanced Japanese investment to Hawaiei. Japanese investment in the continental U.S. along with Asian countriesf investment in HawaieI and the continental U.S. will be studied. University activities regarding Japanese investment include:

œ Offer courses and seminars on related subjects to train unique and effective individuals for international business.

œ Establish scholarships.

œ Foster faculty research and publishing.

œ Hold various international and local seminars.

œ Host lectures by successful global business leaders.

œ Exchange personnel and information with other reputable universities and research institutions.

This is the first unique research center to ever be established in a university. Hawaiei, being the center of the Pacific, witnesses an active exchange of human resources and information. The Center, under the management of Director Mitsuru Misawa, has taken a significant role in deepening mutual understanding and promoting stronger ties between the U.S. and Japan.
