This is a simple exercise to test your ability to show a quiet pride in yourself. In the 11-item list below, find three that are appropriate for you in that you recall such times or events in your own life. Draw a circle around the number identifying each of these three items.

    1. Recall a time when you were looked up to.
    2. Recall a time when you lost but weren't defeated.
    3. Recall a time when somebody was proud of you.
    4. Recall a time when you found you had influence.
    5. Recall a time when you succeeded in your struggle.
    6. Recall a time when you survived a difficult situation.
    7. Recall a time when you felt you had done a good job.
    8. Recall a time when you knew you had shown courage.
    9. Recall a time when somebody was glad you were there.
    10. Recall a time when what you did made an important difference.
    11. Recall a time when you made something good out of something bad.

Now, on a seperate sheet of paper, write a full account of each item that you circled taking a quiet pride in yourself as you do. A simple, confident, quiet pride.

Remember that the stories of our lives, candidly shared and empathically heard, are among the most precious things we can share. Consider pairing with a caring friend or forming a circle of friends with whom you can share your answers to these life questions including your response to this exploration.
