Course Description
The course provides theory and practice involved in planning
and producing instructional graphic materials for desktop publishing and
computer-based presentations. The purpose of the course is to assist students
in implementing a systematic approach to the design production of instructional
materials with emphasis on visual literacy, elements of design, and digital
photographic techniques.
Course Content
- Visual design principles and visual literacy.
- Instructional strategies for text and web-based materials.
- Digital photographic techniques.
- Desktop and web publishing and layout.
Course Requirements
- Completion of mini-assignments (20%)
- Desktop publishing and PDF assignment (20%)
- Participation (20%)
- Final project (40%)
Participation is measured by on-time attendance, participation, contribution,
collaboration, involvement, and communication.
Major Course Objectives
- Design and develop a simple two-sided layout for an instructional
handout.
- Report and reflect on the visual design process.
- Describe basic theories of visual design and compare across media.
- Discuss the impact of visual literary on education and the design
of instruction.
- Design a web-based curriculum resource
- Design an assessment approach for the resource.
- Make a professional mediated presentation of the design process and
final project.
