Accomplishments

  • Over 300 long- and short-term graduate students and post-graduate professionals from health disciplines prepared for leadership roles to improve supports and services for children with special health care needs and their families


  • Hawaii MCH LEND graduates are in MCH leadership positions throughout the State


  • Promoted family-centered, community-based, culturally competent, coordinated, inclusive, accessible and affordable systems of care


  • Offered continuing education for community health professionals


  • Provided technical assistance to State Title V programs and those serving children with special health care needs


  • Initiated and accomplished research and program evaluation in conjunction with MCH and Title V community agencies

Affiliations

The Hawaii MCH LEND Program is an integral part of the PacWest Consortium.  The PacWest Consortium which includes Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawai‘i has been actively convened since 2000 with New Mexico and Utah joining in 2004.  The consortium assembles at the National MCHLEND Directors meeting twice a year and in the interim conducts telephone conference calls every other month.  The collaborative objectives include 1) organizing and developing CME programs for regional audiences, 2) identifying training needs of interdisciplinary trainees, 3) delineating a research agenda, 4) developing faculty/trainee exchanges among the MCHLEND programs, and 5) creating an evaluation and dissemination forum for innovative training curriculum.
