Background:
Began working in the computer industry while still a high school student back in the 1970's. I started at the Great America Theme Park in their Data Processing Department and spent seven years primarily working second and third shift in computer operations. I also worked part time at the University of Wisconsin - Parkside as a student programmer while obtaining my Bachelor's degree -- primarily programming in PL/I, Pascal, and COBOL. I was a teaching assistant/grader for the Quantitative Methods and Systems Analysis classes at UW-P. While a student, I worked part time for the Kenosha Unified School Disctrict (public schools) doing operations and some programming in BASIC and COBOL as they converted from a Burroughs computer to a Hewlett-Packard minicomputer. After college, I spent several years with a tour and transportation company in Hawaii working my way up to an executive level management position in which I supervised system development, computer operations, and networking management as well as reservations. I chaired their corporate revenue cycle committee and reduced the average collection period and streamlined the billing process. For the past ten years, I have been on the faculty at Leeward Community College and love teaching and research. I am tenured in Information & Computer Science.
Both of my parents strongly believed in keeping their minds active. I share that philosophy and have been a life long learner. I currently have over 170 undergraduate credits and over 100 graduate level credits. I am currently a student in the MBA program at the University of Hawaii - Manoa and would like to pursue a Ph.D. in International Business focusing primarily on Information Technology.
In addition to teaching, I have several hobbies and activities that I enjoy. I like weight training to keep my body rejuvenated. I enjoy reading primarily mystery and suspense novels. I enjoy movies, especially comedies, epic dramas, and mysteries. I love puzzles regularly doing crosswords and my personal favorite, logic problems. Finally, I enjoy music, love going to concerts and am able to play several instruments -- my personal favorite is the piano which I began at the age of five. My favorite composers are Chopin and Mozart. I especially find playing Chopin's nocturnes relaxing. In high school, I was selected as the outstanding senior musician in my graduating class of over 900 students -- I was the prinicipal percussionist with the symphonic band.
