April 25,2007

Abstract

With the significance of technology integration in schools today, concerns on effictive use of technology increased. This study was conducted as a needs assessment in a high school setting with 19 teachers in ways they integrated technology. It took place at Saipan Southern High School which is located on the island of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The study examined the ideal situation for integrating technology at Saipan Southern High School with existing equipment and faculty's current knowledge and experience in working with the equipment.

Data was collected through surveys that were available online for a period of two weeks. The data was compiled and analyzed to determine the gap between the current situation and the ideal situation in integrating technology at Saipan Southern High School. The five-part survey was designed to answer the following research questions: 1) What types of technological equipment are accessible at the school and in classrooms for teachers and students? 2) What are the teachers' background and experience in using the available equipment and applications? 3) How are teachers integrating technology in the classroom? 4) How often is technology being used in classroom activities and for what activities?
