The traditional means of testing, using the paper-and-pencil based testing method continues to play an active role in test administration. However, with the advancement of technology the use of computer-based testing provides an alternate method to assess student performance outcomes.

According to Reeves (as cited by Benson, 2003), assessment is defined as “the activity of measuring student learning and other human characteristics such as aptitude and motivation where evaluation is focused on judging the effectiveness and worth of programs and products”. The use of traditional face-to-face, pencil and paper assessment testing could very well be minimized with the emergence of computer-based online assessment and compete as a very viable option for determining student learning.
