“Blog” is a truncation of the term weblog or web log. It is essentially an online journal and has recently gain popularity as a means of documentation and communication.

In terms of education, blogs have been integrated into coursework as personal journals and class discussions. Journals and discussions have previously existed in traditional classroom situations as forms of assessment, for they create opportunities for expression and reflection. The transition to an online format has created new benefits as well as new obstacles.
