STUDENT PROFILES / ALUMNI

John Clark, B.S. 1988, Tropical Horticulture, Owner of Kalapana Tropicals. "All Classes involved not only the textbook/lecture side of learning, but gave me hands-on practical application labs that let me put into practice what I learned in the classroom."

Dr. Boyd Castro, B.S. 1988, Animal Science, DVM, 1994, Iowa State University, Ames. "I found the university to be small enough to care about the individual students but large enough to offer the students the major courses that are needed to further their education towared a professional degree. The University farm offers the student an excellent advantage to get hands-on knowledge of various species of animals."

Dr. Bruce Mathews, B. S. 1986, General Agriculture, Ph.D., 1992, University of Florida, Gainesville. "The faculty provided me considerable, personal attention. Furthermore, my faculty advisor was instrumental in encouraging me to attend graduate school. The multidisciplinary curriculum required of all UH Hilo CA students has repeatedly helped me to effectively integrate the expertise of cooperators from a wide range of academic disciplines into my research, teaching and consulting work. The level of multidiciplinary cooperation with education at UHH is unique among the universities with which I have been associated."

Lew Nakamura, B.S. 1981, Tropical Horticulture, President of Hikari Nursery and Landscaping, Inc. "I can say there were two things that really made my academic years at the CA noteworthy. The first was the great rapport between the studetns and faculty. Secondly, the location of the CA is without saying, a major plus for any student."

Dr. Martin Dickman, B.S. 1979, Tropical Horticulture, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology, University of Nebraska, Lincoln. "I not only obtained a good textbook education, but a real taste of what research is all about, thus providing me with excellent preparation for graduate studies and my current faculty position."
