She wanted me to stress that she only went to the first taping. Had some good info about future stuffs....;) 10. PBS taping ... Date: Tue Sep 11, 2007 11:40 pm ((PDT)) Just walked in the door (literally!) but here's a few highlights (and low lights) of the PBS taping. They had 1 table for the "list" divided A-D, G-H, etc. as folks got their cards (labeled P B or S) they stampeded thru the line of people already waiting to get their passes. It was disorganization to the max. (I think it would have worked better if everyone was given numbers--and they could come back). We were in this room with no food, no beverages, couldn't leave to go back to our cars, and it was just a mess. We were then "corraled" (for lack of a better word) in 3 "sections" of piping with black curtains on 3 sides - where we stood from approx. 4 pm until 7:30-ish. At about 5:45 they came out and said that they were still working stage issues, and it should be about another 30-45 minutes, however, to make up for it "all of us" would be getting into see the show. There was no water, no air conditioning, the floors were solid cement--it was very uncomfortable for 3 hours to just stand and do nothing. Plus, there were several folks with canes, and elderly. They finally got some chairs for them to sit on. The Show ... Garry came out and did a mini Q&A--but we couldn't hear the questions that were asked--only some answers. Someone asked him something (couldn't hear it) and the answer was "he'll do it, for everyone but you". Tour--we didn't have pencil and paper with us--but several cities were mentioned. Cleveland--a definite. Nassau, Florida, Atlanta --maybe Denver??? Christmas CD--out 11/1. Bonus Cut with a special code that won't be on the CD. Harmony--still waiting. Someone asked how to audition to be a backup singer, and Garry asked if she thought she was better than the divas on stage. (And I'm sure there was more--I just can't recall.) It was the evening of blues ... Barry in a black suit, blue shirt-- Mark in a gray jacket, blue shirt, Garry in a (can't remember the color) jacket--probably black--and a blue shirt. The audience all looked like we were in mourning ... black, black, and more black. Barry commented on how nice everyone looked, and how much he enjoyed seeing everyone in their finery vs. t-shirts! The staging ... 3 different stages. One in the far left corner (as you look at the stage) of the white piano with the rows of lights behind it, center stage was the black piano and in the back was another keyboard (he didn't use that stage tonight). All were connected with ramps and walkways (Sorta like U2's stage with the circle and the pit). Garry mentioned that he was scared to walk down the ramp, but Barry had some sort of rubber on his shoes that kept him from falling. He came out and sang "Who's Been Sleeping", only to discover at the end of it that the band couldn't hear him through their monitors, so they had to adjust the mics and re-did the song later. Next was "Looks Like We Made It", then the beginning of "The Way We Were", merged into a mini-medley with "You've Got A Friend (with the 4 backups), back to "The Way We Were", then a snippet of "The Old Songs". Very clever. At some part in this sang "It Never Rains in CA". Then went to the white piano and did "All The Time". Marty Panzer was in the audience. This was (according to Barry) the outtakes that will be on the CD, but probably not shown during the PBS special. He did a couple of the songs over (Who's Been Sleeping, It Never Rains, All The Time, and the mini-medley) for camera angles and blocking. We noticed the backups weren't lit for the mini-medley when they sang the first time. We were out of there by 8:30ish.
