Course Description
This course provides a broad perspective on communication policy problems and methods of analysis. The course will cover three topics: (1) policy perspectives, (2) policy structures and processes, and (3) policy case studies. Site visits to such places as KHET, Verizon, Oceanic, and COMSAT may be arranged as time and opportunity permit.

Grading Criteria
You are required (1) to write short critical reviews of two books to be selected on the first and second topics, (2) to prepare a case study of a communication policy problem, and (3) to actively participate in class discussions. Your course grade will be based on your book reviews (20% each for a total of 40%), case study (50%), and class participation (10%). Oral and written presentations will be evaluated on the basis of their originality (20%), organization (20%), style (20%), methodology (20%), and cogency (20%). Your course numeric grade will correspond to letter grades as follows: 90-100, A; 80-89, B; 70-79, C; 60-69, D; below 60, F.

Attendance is required. For each unexcused absence or missed weekly assignment, one point will be deducted from a course total of 100 points. An incomplete grade will be given only to students with a demonstrated hardship preventing timely completion of coursework.
