Professor: Majid Tehranian, majid@hawaii.edu
Course Description This course reviews communication developments in the Pacific Hemisphere in a comparative perspective. It provides a framework for the comparative analysis of national and regional systems. In addition to regular class attendance and reading of assignments, you are required to present orally and in written form (1) two book reviews of about 5 pages each of the required texts, and (2) a national or regional case study of about 15 pages. Grading Criteria Your grade will be based on your class participation (20%), your book reviews (20% each), and your case study (40%). Attendance is required. For each unexcused absence or missed assignment deadline, one point will be deducted from a grade total of 100 points. You are required to read or browse through the references on your own. Your thesis should reflect their recommendations for academic writing and employ their standards for scholarly citations. Your oral and written presentations will be evaluated on the basis of their originality (20%), organization (20%), lucidity (20%), scholarship (20%), and cogency (20%). Your course numeric grade will correspond to letter grades as follows: 90-100, A; 80-89, B; 70-79, C; 60-69, D; below 60, F.
