Hi, my name is John MacKinnon. I'm currently 32 years old and have been living in Hawai'i since
the end of januari 2001. This is my first semester here at KCC, and if you're looking at this
webpage you see the product of an assignment from my ICS 101 class.
In the following few pages I will let you know a little more about myself. I will talk about
what I have done before starting at KCC, and about what I'm doing here at KCC. I will also
talk about a few of my hobbies.
After my education in Holland, which I never finished, I started working in all sorts of places.
I've worked as a cleaner, a postal worker (mailman), a warehouse manager, production assistant
(nothing fancy, just assembly line kinda work), supervisor of a mailroom, pizza delivery guy
and various combinations of all mentioned posts.
Except for the pizza delivery, all other functions were in Holland, and I've been having a hard
time finding work that fits my schedule. (just in case any potential employer reads this, I'm
pretty much willing to do any kind of work, have at least high school equivalant education, and
have a fairly vast experience in all kinds of computer based work (although this is not
necessarily professional experience))
Here's a list of my hobbies, each name links to a seperate page.

As you can see I have as full a schedule as is allowed (all classes I'm taking are 3 credit
classes and there's a limit of 16 credits a semester).
Although it looks like that leaves me with an incredible amount of free time, you all probably
know that you need a lot of that free time to do homework and assignments.
For those of you that are interested, here's some of my toughts on each of my
classes .
ICS 101
This is a very basic introductory class to computers. You learn about different types of
computers, different types of peripherals, and different types of software.
The hardware and peripherals are really just mentioned, you don't actually learn to work with
them.
With the software there's a number of packages which are discussed, specifically Word, Excell
and PowerPoint. You also learn the basics of HTML programming.
ICS 111
This is an introduction to Java Programming (or at least it was this semester).
ICS 101 & MATH 135 are prerequisites, but since I had some previous programming experience I
was allowed to take this class now.
For our last project we had to create a very basic game, in the style of classics like
asteroids, space invaders, and others like that.
MATH 103
What can I say, it's math. We discussed linear and non-linear equations, and a whole bunch of
other stuff.
Funny how some of this came in handy for the ICS 111 class. Finally a practical use for math.
ENG 100
Mostly about how to write a paper using the correct format. Started off really interesting, but
it dwindled down near the end.
PHI 101
Very interesting class, I thought. I like the way how everything is pretty much open for
discussion. Have yet to find a philosophy that really holds up to scrutiny.
