You Are Merely Soldiers

You are merely soldiers,

Reacting to the pangs of hunger,

Twitching at the touch of temptation,

Flaring at the spark of necessity.

You are merely soldiers,

Your memories are hollow,

Your objectives are scattered

Although your imaginations are singular.

The signature and words of others compel your actions,

Why will you not be impelled by envy?

You are merely soldiers,

Your hearts and bones are cold,

Your pockets and dedication are empty,

Why will you not succumb to the promise of the bullet?

You are merely soldiers,

Distrustful of the sincerity of the tongue and mind,

You perceive

Fame and honor as one and the same.

You are merely soldiers, not yet warriors.
