Clermontia genus is endemic to Hawai`i.  Clermontia kakeana takes a shrub or tree form, 1-6 m tall, and lifestyle is terrestrial or epiphytic.  Leaf blades are relatively long with round-toothed margins and light green lower surface relative to the upper surface coloration.  Sepals and petals are light green to white and the staminate portion is magenta with dark purple anthers.  Its fruit is orange and semi-globe shaped.  Clermontia kakeana occurs in mesic forest on O`ahu, Moloka`i and Maui.
