If you take a magnifying glass outside on a sunny day, you can focus it on a piece of white paper until the image of the sun becomes a very tiny and very intense dot of light. If you keep this dot focused on the paper, after about a minute the paper will begin to scorch, and shortly thereafter flames will begin to burn around the edges of the brown spot on the paper.
