"The thing is, I can't go anywhere right now
until you bring me some clothes."

My father was very interested in photography. Most everywhere we went, he took a black and white camera, a 35mm camera with color film, and -- often -- a little 8mm movie camera. The black and white film he developed himself in the basement, the rest got send off to commercial labs.

While I was growing up, I did a lot of picture-taking myself. I can still tell you about F-stops and shutter speeds. But once I left home, I never took many pictures again.

But I still record scenes and events in my own way, everywhere I go.

One prerequisite of beauty
back then was the Secret.

To look somehow as if you carried a secret. A sorrow you could not tell.
Or forbidden desire.

To look at eighteen or twenty as if your past weighed on you.

Sometimes it did, sometimes more than we knew.
