Europeans are generally very strict about drinking and driving. But I once saw something in Montmartre that you would definitely never see in the U.S.
A car with three guys in it pulled up outside a brasserie at one of the really touristy places in Montmartre. (I'm pretty sure it was the Brasserie St. Jean next to the Place des Abbesses.) They were double parked, but not completely blocking the street. The driver gave a couple of taps on his horn.
A waiter came out of the bar, talked to the driver, then went back inside the bar and a few minutes later came out with a tray and three glasses of beer, which he gave to the guys in the car, then going back inside the bar. Ten or fifteen minutes later, the driver tapped the horn again, and the waiter came back to the car, collected payment and the three empty glasses. And the car went on its way.
Love & kisses to all,
