Okay, ZEGG is over and I'm here in Berlin again, in Weissensee. That's in East Berlin. The easiest way to tell that you're in the former eastern sector is that you see trams. Trams everywhere in the east, no trams in the west.
Mitte, where I stayed for a night last year, was also in the eastern sector, but there has been a large influx of new people into Mitte since ``die Wende'' (the Change, i.e. the fall of the Wall). But in Weissensee one gets much more of a feeling of what East Berlin was like. In the lobby of the building where I'm staying, there's still a notice stuck up informing residents that they must immediately file a report with the police in case they move or even stay in someone else's apartment for a few days.
I'm starting to get to know the city, but unfortunately my legs have completely given out. I can hardly walk at all anymore. But I'm still riding the S-Bahn and U-Bahn and trams all over the city.
