Breaking Up with Someone Requires Cooperation

It is a curious thing that most women seem to know the things to do in the beginning of a relationship. They listen to a man, show interest in him and his life, laugh at his jokes, do everything possible to make him feel good, and --- most of all --- do their best to express approval of him. Find him right. After all, one of the big things most men are looking for is someone who will approve of them.

But when a relationship starts going bad, most women start using exactly the opposite strategy: talking about only their own concerns, treating what the man is interested in as a nuisance, trying to make the man feel guilty, and finding everything about him wrong. And doing everything possible to make him feel bad.

It seems like a break-up is a drama where both parties are have scripted roles. If one of the two parties refuses to stick to the script, then it's very difficult for the break-up to reach its conclusion. It's like getting into a wrestling match and having one of the two parties refuse to push back. It makes it very difficult for the other person to wrestle.

"Hey, no fair! We're supposed to be breaking up. You're supposed to get mad and call me a bastard. How can I break up with you if you refuse to fight with me?"
