Re: Assisting high school students

Aloha:

The University of Hawai‘i’s Kūle‘a Project is seeking high school counselors and club advisors to aid us in our mission of encouraging and aiding disenfranchised high school students to advance themselves and their ambitions by pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

The Kūle‘a Project’s mission is to inform and encourage all disadvantaged groups who are underrepresented at UH-Mānoa; with a special concentration on students of Hawaiian ancestry.  We are reaching out to extracurricular organizations and teams that have a substantial Hawaiian membership.  It is our understanding that you are an advisor that can best help us.

Although it would be a great for these students to obtain a bachelors degree from any accredited university, we believe that UH Mānoa provides the best opportunities for Hawaiian students.  UH

Mānoa possesses a Hawaiian operated academic and financial support office dedicated to helping Hawaiian students complete their college career.  UH Mānoa also offers scores of courses on Hawaiian culture and society that can be used toward fulfilling undergraduate core requirements no matter the major.

Our program pursues its goals primarily through in-school presentations.  We use these presentations to inform indifferent high school students of the outreach service programs we have.  We also actively assist them in the often laborious and overwhelming task of transferring to UH Mānoa.  In addition, we aid students in developing an enrollment strategy to prevent recidivism and delay in graduation.  It is our mission to encourage these students to continue reaching for
their aspirations while pursuing a degree at home.
