Tails
Another element that holds you into the face by water flow is the release point of the water off the tail of the board.
Flat or round tails:
In general the flatter or rounder the tail points (or edges of the tail) the more loosely the board rides and the easier it is to pivot or break the tail loose for a spin. This shape also makes it easier to go from rail to rail for transitional turns.
Crescent tails:

The sharper the tail points (or edges of the tail) the more the water is channeled to a focused point, thus intensifying the directional flow and "tracking" effect giving the board better holding power without sliding out.
Bat tail:

I designed the bat tail to capitalize on the benefits of both, the looseness of the rounded or squaretail and the hold of a sharper crescent tail point.
