Welcome to Kalani High School’s Smaller Learning community (SLC) aka the Freshmen House!! The focus for the house is to:
Through the House experiences, you will practice these skills and roles which will help you be a successful student throughout your academic career into college.
The purpose for creating the Freshen House is to allow your core teachers the means to track your individual student progress and difficulties, and to provide you with the academic and personal support to help you succeed in high school. This House consists of core teachers from English (Mr. Doran), Social Studies (Ms. X) and Science (Ms. Tom), in addition to teachers for Guidance (Mrs. Tang) and Technology. House and individual course activities and projects will emphasize the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards (HCPS).
This will probably be a very challenging year ahead for everyone! You will learn and practice new skills and will work harder than ever before! You will become an active participant in your own education and learn how to set goals and assume new responsibilities. To assist you, the core teachers have developed this Handbook. It is a collection of important handouts that have been compiled for your convenience. You should read every word and ask any questions as necessary. Since you will be using this for guidance throughout the school year, DO NOT LOSE IT!! So put this handbook into your House binder.
Give careful attention to the section entitled, “House Requirements.” They contain critically important information about rules and policies that will be enforced across the House in all three core classes.
