ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE TURNED IN ON TIME!!
But…LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED - - UNTIL 7:50 AM THE FOLLOWING DAY AFTER THE DUE DATE…BUT WITH A MAXIMUM VALUE OF NO MORE THAN 80%!
Extenuating Circumstances:
-
Individual students may negotiate a change in due date with each teacher, if it has been negotiated 24 hours in advance of the due date. No negotiations will be allowed on the day that an assignment is due.
-
Field trips are not considered absences, so work is still due on time, in the morning (before you lave) or afternoon (when you return).
Absences:
-
If you are absent the day an assignment is due you must turn it in on the day you return to class. On the day you return, find out what work you missed. You will have only 2 school days to turn in any missed assignments. Schedule any missed test or labs as soon as possible.
-
It is also strongly recommended that if you are absent for more than 2 school days, then your family should call the counselor and request that your homework be sent home.
-
ALL WORK MUST BE WRITTEN IN BLUE OR BLACK INK.
Any work in pencil will not be accepted. Typed papers are not accepted unless specified in the assignment.
-
ALL WORK MUST HAVE THE STUDENT’S FULL NAME, DATE, PERIOD AND ASSIGNMENT TITLE written in the top right hand corner.
-
NO EXTRA CREDIT will be given.
Grading Policy & Expectations
In general, A, B, or C grades are passing grades. D and F grades are not encouraged and eventually D drags will not be acceptable because of the new standards-based report card due to be initiated in SY 2006-2007.
Projects will be graded on two levels. A group grade will be assessed based on the success of the project as a whole. Individual grades will be based on personal responsibility. All expectations will be explained with rubrics and parameters examined.
All course assignments will be graded on a point system using standards. Letter grades will be calculated according to the percentage of points earned out of the total possible points per quarter, semester and year.
The following scale will be used to determine report card grades:
| 100.0 | - | 90% | = | A |
| 89.9 | - | 80% | = | B |
| 79.9 | - | 70% | = | C |
| 69.9 | - | 60% | = | D |

PLAGIARISM POLICY
Plagiarism in a school environment is academic dishonesty - - cheating. It will not be tolerated and, if discovered, it will be dealt with severely. The consequences may include receiving a phone call to parents/guardians, a referral to the vice principal, and/or a grade of zero on that assignment.
In Webster’s Dictionary, plagiarism is defined as:
-
To steal and pass off (the ideas of another) as one’s own.
-
To use (a created production) without crediting the souce.
-
To commit literary theft.
-
To present as new and original, an idea or product derived from an existing source.
And synonyms for plagiarize include: COPY, cheat, reword, rephrase.
Directly copying someone else’s work and then taking full credit for it is the most flagrant kind of plagiarism. However, there are other, more subtle forms of plagiarism. For example, in a science course:
-
Copying someone else’s idea and answers on a test or quiz is cheating.
-
Giving or receiving information on exams outside the classroom is cheating.
-
Directly copying someone’s homework is plagiarism.
-
Directly copying answers from a text is plagiarism.
-
Directly using information or research papers from the Internet.
-
Science research papers are governed by the same rules that apply to all research papers. All opinions, orginal ideas, interpretations of facts, charts and direct quotes must be footnoted. Using someone else’s data without giving credit, or worse, making present your own obviously erroneous data, then state the resons that you feel the results should be disregarded.
The educational process is based on the principle that the less educated learn from the ideas of the more educated. Students should, therefore, use the ideas and opinions of other. This is notplagiarism. Plagiarism occurs when this use is not acknowledged.
