Length: 0.7 mile one way, 560 ft climb, and 173 concrete steps
Elevation Gain: 200 feet
Historic Trail: The trail was built in 1908 as part of the United States Army Coastal Artillery Defense System.
How the Crater was created: Created about 300,000 years ago during a brief volcano eruption. The eruption occured near the ocean. Particles and ashes cemented together in to a rock called tuff which created tuff cones. The Diamond Head State Monument was designated, National Natural Landmark in 1968 as excellent example of tuff cone.
