to choose a different pathway to completing the coursework.
The pathway will lead you to working with Palolo Valley Homes residents,
to improve English literacy, access and finesse with technology.

What are the goals?

Bridge the Digital Divide by providing tutoring, classes and support for students from Palolo Elementary and Jarrett Intermediate and for adults from Palolo Valley Homes in the technology and learning center.

 

How much time do I have to commit?

TRAINING:
2 hours for training with Kirkpatrick, or with Hasager.

Total: See your syllabus/instructor for required hours

 
Why would I want to do this?

Community Service, helping children and adults develop the computer literacy and improve access to information, a friendly place to do schoolwork, and a support system for academic work.

You will expand KapCC's presence and encourage literacy at the Palolo Valley Homes.

You will be teaching and helping others and will meet many dedicated to sharing their expertise with those less fortunate than themselves.

By the end of the first week of class, notify your instructor that you want to choose this as an option.

You will need to appear physically at the Palolo Tenants Association Technology Center, 2195 Ahe Street, Honolulu HI 96816.

You will be asked in this venues to "share your digital capital," your literacy, your knowledge, your technological competence and level of expertise with those who are less fortunate in their access to sophisticated levels of technology.

You may develop learning modules on computer use, tutor Palolo elementary and Jarrett Intermediate students, and mentor community-based technology leaders.

If you consider yourself especially GEEKY, you can join us on Sundays, 2-4 pm for Geek Time where we work on the technology in the center. email: kirkpatr@hawaii.edu

 
Can others participate who are not in thie course?

Yes--of course. Bring your friends, but be sure to tell us you're doing so.
