The One
By: Keoni Dunn
There it is, a picture frozen in time.
I can see your face, so beautiful, so sublime.
My heart ached, rejoiced, and cried in that moment.
Your tears rolled down your cheeks to hit the cooling cement.
You always said I knew the right things to say,
But words seemed to be vacationing that day.
Sitting huddled together, shivering under a street light,
I looked for answers in the overcast night.
Holding you close I did my best,
To understand, as your tears fell gently on my chest.
I vowed with all my heart as a lover and a friend,
To never ever see you cry again.
That night, more than your physical beauty was shown to me.
There was so much I saw that you could not see.
I realized then that in my heart there was love,
As rain fell from the clouds above.
I thought we would never part.
I couldn't believe it when you broke my heart.
Right up to the end I must confess,
There was nothing but happiness.
You never did shed tears, except for that night.
Maybe you did, but not in my sight.
Never again to kiss and hold you tight.
No more smiling all through the night.
Never again will I see that face,
So full of joy, touched with grace.
But I will keep my vow made back then,
To never see you cry again.
