Among the Apens

By: Keoni Dunn

Standing there beneath the aspen trees,

I watch as a stream flows by for all to see.

Its crystal depths, its purity,

Reminds us of the love between you and me.

Our feet wet with dew, we walked through the morning haze.

Stopping, we watched some deer out to graze.

With a touch of a smile you turned to me with love in your gaze,

The morning mist lifted by the sun's warm rays.

Letting the sun's warmth spill down the aspen's leaves,

We drank in the elixer as we breathed.

In a place where no one grieves;

There among the aspen trees.

We danced and sang through sunlit glades

As daylight waned to deeper shades.

Free of authority and their petty tirades

We laugh and watch as the sunlight fades.

As night slowly embraced the land,

We held tight each other's hand;

And tiptoed through the stream's moonlit sand.

There within the aspen stand.

We collected silver teardrops from the stars

As crickets chirped uneven bars.

Packaging our precious gift into jars

We sent it to the women from Venus and men from Mars.

Then as the day chased away the night;

As the stars winked away from sight;

I kissed you softly and held you tight,

The aspens watching with us as the horizon grew bright.

There in the shade of the aspen trees,

We found a place no one else can be.

If one looked closely he might see it in our eyes.

A special love between you and I.
