FOREIGN
LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TESTS
Kapi'olani
Community College offers foreign language placement testing for
seven (7) languages: Chinese, Filipino, French, Hawaiian, Japanese,
Korean, and Spanish. Taking the foreign language placement test
determines your eligibility to either start at a level beyond the
introductory 101 level, or determine native fluency in a particular
language.
Who
should take the foreign language placement test?
You
should take a foreign language placement test if:
- You
have prior knowledge in the language you plan to study is above
the 101 level.
- You
are transferring
to Kapi'olani Community College from another college but have
not yet had your transcripts evaluated.
The
foreign language placement test is not needed if you are going to
start a foreign language at the 101 level.
What do I need
to bring in order to take the foreign language placement test?
All students
taking the placement test must bring a photo ID and a document showing
your UH student identification number (UH ID number). If you do
not have a UH ID number, you can get one by submitting a completed
"Request for UH Number" form to the Kekaulike Information
Service Center in 'Ilima 102 before coming in to take your placement
test.

the foreign language placement test?
Please
check-in at the Testing Center counter in Lama Library.
When do you offer
the foreign language placement test?
All foreign language placement tests are
administered on a walk-in basis, so no appointment is necessary.
Check-in is available 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:30
a.m.-1:00 p.m. Friday. We are closed on weekends and holidays.
All
foreign language placement tests must be completed in one sitting.
Please allow a minimum of two (2) hours to complete the test. These
tests are multiple-choice, taken on a computer, and have no time
limits.
