COMPASS CUTOFF SCORES AND PLACEMENTS

The following charts lists the minimum raw score that a test taker must earn on the COMPASS Placement Test in order to register for that class. These scores and course placement list are specific to Kapi'olani Community College.

If you are transferring your COMPASS Placement Test scores from another UH community college or another college from the mainland to Kapi'olani Community College and want to know what courses you are eligible to take at KCC, please refer to the table below. If you are transferring your COMPASS Placement Test scores from Kapi'olani Community College to another UH Community College and want to know the course equivalencies, contact the community college testing center for more information.

Mathematics Cutoff Scores and Course Placements
If the student's math placement domain is PRE-ALGEBRA and the score is:
0 - 46 and PCC 20 iCAN Math (formerly PCM 23)
0 - 46 and ENG 21 iCAN Math (formerly PCM 23)
0 - 46 and ENG 22 Just In Time Math (formerly PCM 23)
0 - 46 and ENG 100 Just In Time Math (formerly PCM 23)
47 - 99 MATH 24 - Elementary Algebra I
If the student's math placement domain is ALGEBRA and the score is:
0 - 35 MATH 24 - Elementary Algebra I or
MATH 81 - Foundations of Mathematics
36 - 49 MATH 25 - Elementary Algebra II
50 - 61 MATH 25 - Elementary Algebra II
BUS 100 - Math to Solve Problems
MATH 100 - Survey of Mathematics
MATH 115 - Statistics
62 -74 MATH 103 - Fundamentals of College Algebra
75 - 99 MATH 135 - Elementary Functions / Pre-Calculus
If the student's math placement domain is COLLEGE ALGEBRA and the score is:
0 - 55 MATH 103 - Fundamentals of College Algebra
56 - 70 MATH 135 - Elementary Functions / Pre-Calculus
BUS 250 - Applied Math in Business
71 - 99 MATH 140 - Trigonometry / Analytic Geometry
If the student's math placement domain is TRIGONOMETRY and the score is:
0 - 45 MATH 140 - Trigonometry / Analytic Geometry
46 - 99 MATH 205 - Calculus I

English Cutoff Scores and Course Placements
If the student's READING score is between ____ and WRITING score is < 40:
0 - 55 PCC 20 - Pre-College Communications
56 - 78 ENG 21 - Developmental Reading
79 - 99 ENG 102 - College Reading Skills
Otherwise, if the student's WRITING score is greater than or equal to 40:
40 - 73 ENG 22 - Beginning Composition
74 - 99 ENG 100 - Composition I
