Born in Honolulu, Kenneth F. Brown, FAIA, is a well known architect, humanitarian, businessman and civic leader who has devoted much of his life to serving the community. In recognition of his many accomplishments, the Kenneth F. Brown Asia Pacific Culture and Architecture Design Awards Program has been named in his honor. A graduate of Princeton University, Brown served as a special assistant to the late Governor John A. Burns and later as a state senator (majority floor leader, 1968-74). Utilizing his considerable professional knowledge, business acumen and leadership skills, Brown has played an instrumental role in assuring the restoration of numerous historic buildings and sites, including Iolani Palace, the former home of the Hawaiian Monarchy and now a national treasure. Extremely active in community affairs, Brown is currently a trustee or director for over 18 different organizations. His many honors include Outstanding Hawaiian Businessman of the Year from the Hawaiian Business/Professional Association, Humanitarian of the Year from the Hawaii Red Cross, Kama'aina of the Year from the Historic Hawaii Foundation, and designation as a Living Treasure by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. |
