An accomplished architect, archaeologist and preservationist, Ashley de Vos received his architectural training at the IPTK Katubedde in Sri Lanka and the School of Architecture in Plymouth, England. Later he studied landscape architecture at the Hammersmith School of Architecture in London and did post-graduate work in architectural conservation at the University of Rome and at the International Centre for the Study & the Preservation & Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in Rome, Italy. His professional experience ranges from Edwards Reid & Begg (under Geoffrey Bawa) and The Design Group Five International (Pvt) Ltd. in Sri Lanka to several architectural and urban renewal projects in the United Kingdom. He has taught at several institutions, including the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka, where he currently teaches design studio and the history of landscape design. In addition to receiving numerous design and
heritage awards, in 1994 de Vos was conferred the rank of Vidya Jyothi
(Light of Science) by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic
of Sri Lanka for his contributions to architecture, conservation and the
