NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION:

The Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Marco is a social center that is created around art, as well as a museum.  The design was conceived by integrating the urban setting and inspired by the traditional plan of Mexican houses, based on a central patio surrounded by arcades, which give access to the galleries.

The vestibule of great height gives access to the auditorium, the gift shop and the cafeteria, which is mixed with the exhibitions.  After one crosses through a sculptural lattice, one arrives to the main patio which serves as the main element for the access to the galleries. In addition, this patio can be used for concerts, receptions, auctions, weddings and other gatherings.  In normal days the patio serves as a fountain so it does not look stark.  In special occasions it can be drained and usable.

The art exhibition takes place in a natural environment in different galleries of different proportions, forms and heights, strategically situating fountains of natural light, which keep the visitor in touch with the city and central patio without distracting from the exhibitions.  This spaces change according to the exhibition, so the museum will always look different.

USER'S ASSESSMENT:

I am a user of the nominated space since it opened to the public.

The design is a model of flexibility and comfort.  The architect carefully planned every single detail and its unique design makes it a real jewel in our community.

It was the first building of its kind in our city and has been admired by thousands of people either working here or visiting.

The appropriateness of the installations in all areas, both open to the public or for internal use are quintessential.

As General Director of the space, appointed even before the foundations of the building were set, I was able to observe every step of its construction process, and have been supervise by the use of each area at all times.

It is a personal pleasure and a professional honor to work in this building.
